"We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"

<3 Taylor Swift <3

I was extremely overjoyed this morning, as my favorite song, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” played on the radio, while I was driving in traffic!  Many of you have probably heard this catchy song by Taylor Swift, which is presumably about her latest ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal.   I must admit that it's not the most original song, but it sure is fun to sing along to!  Taylor Swift has been criticized for writing another break up song.  It is true that she has recorded quite a few break up songs in the past, but at least she is actually writing about something that others can relate to.  Who hasn’t gone through heartbreak at some point in their life?

Many will also have the experience of getting back together with an ex-boyfriend.   Through my personal experience, I have learned that getting back together with an ex is never a good idea.  The same issues still seem to exist, no matter how hard you try to make it work.  Luckily enough though, when you and an ex break up for the second time, it doesn’t suck nearly as much as it did the first time.

I love how personal Taylor’s songs are; from this I can gather that she is in touch with her emotions, and that she is a very open and honest person.  I see her as not just a celebrity/songwriter, but also as a human being that I can empathize with.  I wish I could sing a song about my ex(s) for the whole world to hear.  Talk about revenge!

Critics of “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” seem to think that Taylor’s song is annoying.  In a way they are right, as it probably will be annoying after Amp Radio and Virgin Radio play it five million times, like the hit song “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen.  Radio stations definitely have a tendency to over play songs.   I have to admit, no matter how many times a song gets played, as long as it's cheesy, I will probably still like it forever.  For example, I was beyond excited when I heard Carly sing “Call Me Maybe” live at Stampede during the summer.  It was like a dream come true.  My friend even let me go on his shoulders; what a great experience!

I think Taylor Swift is a wonderful song writer, and I can't wait to hear this upbeat song again on the radio!  It always seems to put me in a better mood.

  1. Hi Riley,

I love Taylor Swift. I think she is my favorite artist. Her songs have meaning and aren't like all those other songs nowadays that make no sense. Her lyrics actually tell a story that anyone can relate to.

I wasn't a huge fan of this song at first. After hearing a few more times it has grown on me and ultimately I don't think there is one of her songs I don't like. The song has a different vibe to it, more pop music than country. Usually her songs have a nice balance between the two and now I am wondering with her new look and this new song if she is changing her whole persona. Either way, I think I will always like her.

Right now, I really like her song 'Eyes Open'. She is such a real and down to earth person it seems. I saw her in concert one time and she is amazing. It is like watching a show, rather than someone just jumping up and down.

Amazing singer, glad you wrote about her!

  2. I have never heard "Eyes Open" .... I will definitely have to check it out! My cousin first introduced me to Taylor, and I have loved her ever since.

When did you see her in concert!? Unfortunately, the concerts I have attended were quite lame. My very first concert was Hilary Duff, followed by The Jonas Brother's. I did see Blink 182 though; they were incredible.

    Thanks for your comment.
