Better get out your chairs, blankets and umbrellas. Yes, it's that time of year again! When Apple releases its new iPhone and it's here, the iPhone 5! The release date for Canada and the US was scheduled for September 21, 2012 - and that's today! So if you haven't already pre-ordered... be prepared to get to the back of the line and get comfy!
In New York people were already lining-up outside their Apple Stores days in advance for the release of the new iPhone 5. It's been reported that some hard core fans were camping out for almost a week prior. Don't get me wrong, I love my iPhone - but definitely not enough to sit outdoors through rain or shine, on the city streets, for a whole week... just for a smart phone! No thanks! I will admit though, I have just recently pre-ordered myself the new, sleek black iPhone 5! It should be arriving by September 28th if everything goes to plan. So who am I to say!
Once I jumped on the iPhone bandwagon, I never looked back. I wont lie - I'm pretty excited to upgrade and receive my new iPhone. Currently I'm rocking the iPhone 3G. My 3G has been awesome, reliable, and lasted me almost 3 years! I've never had any major issues with it, other than its a bit slow on the network and has a shattered screen (which was caused by my own recklessness). Even though my 3G has done well for me, it has become an outdated and vintage artifact compared to the 3GS, 4, 4S and now the 5.

I was also completely unaware that there was even another competing smart phone in the market. To be honest, I didn't even know the Samsung Galaxy S3 existed until the excitement of the iPhone release date was announced. That's when I started hearing the uproar regarding this rival smart phone, the Galaxy S3. Apparently there is quite the controversy surrounding the iPhone 5 vs. the Galaxy S3. Many people are arguing that the Samsung Galaxy S3 is a better product, the android technology is far superior than the iOS6 system, and you are a complete fool if you didn't know this. Well, I guess I'm a complete fool thanks to my Apple tunnel vision!
With all this talk about the Galaxy S3 being the better and "more popular" choice, and with my new iPhone 5 on its way via mail - I was starting to question my decision. Was the Samsung Galaxy 3S really that much more of a better phone? Did the Galaxy really outperform the iPhone? How had these comments made me question my love for an Apple product? Was the Apple iPhone 5 not going to be the hot new ticket item anymore? Was I having buyers remorse? This commercial by Samsung, "slamming" Apple buyers, didn't help my case either - although I have to admit it was smart marketing (they made me double think my decision)!

Enough was enough! I had to do some research of my own and get the inside on the differences myself! The results of my findings were that yes, the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S3 were head to head and it was a close call. Each phone had their advantages and disadvantages, although no phone stood out more than the other. Both phones seemed just as awesome! Some of the differences and specs on these two smart phones are displayed in these two videos below!

So, I guess it just boils down to a personal preference and opinion as to what brand and system one prefers more. For me, Apple and their iOS6 system takes the cake! There's so many things I love about it, I don't even know where to begin! That's what I know and that's what I love! Bring on my new iPhone 5!
Well, what route are you going - Apple iPhone 5 or Samsung Galaxy 3?!

Great comparison between the two phones Heather!
ReplyDeleteThe iPhone 5 would for sure be a huge improvement from the iPhone 3 that you currently use now.
If I were to choose between the 2 phones, I would definitely choose the S3 over the iPhone 5. When comparing the specs between the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5, there is not much of a difference other than the bigger screen and slimmer body. I find it really inconvenient how the cable for the iPhone 5 is different from all the previous cables whereas the S3 uses a universal micro usb cable.
Hi Heather,
ReplyDeleteI found it very intriguing that you did research on the two phones. I myself am also a huge Apple fan, and could never see myself getting any other type of phone other than the iPhone. Much like you said my customer and brand loyalty always get the best of me.
I've had several of my friends sign new contracts just to get the S3 and have tried their hardest to convince me I should do the same, but I really would not know what to do without my iPhone. It may be more of a comfortability thing, but I couldn't switch and am planning on getting the iPhone 5 in the future. Any time i try to use a friends Android I can never figure out how to use it, where as the iPhone is so easy to operate. My own mom can operate FaceTime and absolutely loves her iPhone.
In the past I have went through several iPhones due to my own recklessness; I've dropped them and cracked them, as well as dropped them in the toilet. Even though many of the issues were my fault, Apple still replaced the phone at no cost, which is a feature I'm not sure you would get with any other company. Which is one of the huge reasons I have chosen to stay an Apple customer.
Unlike yourself, I didn't do any research reagrding the two products, and i really appreciated your insight on the controversy. It especially helped me realized that I do think I made the right choice when picking out my new phone!
I think you've done something that majority of iPhone users have never done, research. When it comes down to Apple vs. Samsung, I think it's a matter of preference. The major selling point about Apple products is that they are "user friendly". Anyone can pick up an iPhone and learn how to use it very quickly. The Android phones are not as easily figured out though.
ReplyDeleteThe phone comparisons are also about brand awareness. The brand that Apple has developed is substantial and they have a huge fan base. Overall, people see Apple not only as a technology company but as a trend. Apple has many loyal fans that are not very likely to switch phones. Samsung's only chance is to attract customers who have never had an iPhone. Of course I'm sure there are some who have switched from iPhone to Android, but they are a very small population.
It's not necessarily about which phone is better, but about which brand is better. Apple has always won in that category. Samsung is a well established brand, but Apple products became a must-have trend. Of course Apple products are of high quality but without their branding and designs I don't think they would have been as successful.
Those Samsung commercials were genius though. They targeted the iPhone features that customers love most and showed how the Galaxy was better. This was great Marketing on Samsung's part.
However, like I mentioned earlier, the Apple brand is what keeps customers coming back for their new products and innovations.
Great post!
