Cowboys ... yeeehaw!

On October 27th, I turned eighteen years old!  How exciting, right?  So far, in my limited time being eighteen, I have gone to Hudsons Tap House (for their 35 cent wing night on Wednesday's), the Back Alley (twice), and Cowboys (twice).  I must say that so far, Cowboys has been my favorite bar, for a number of reasons.

Cowboys is located inside of a Casino downtown, so you wait inside the building to get in!  This is especially handy, as since we live in Calgary, there are many times when it is freezing cold/snowing outside.  At Cowboys, they play both a mix of Country songs, and popular songs that you may hear on the radio.  They hold an awesome Ladies night every Wednesday, where you and your girlfriends can book a limo ... for free!  Currently on Wednesday nights, there is a chance to win tickets to see Oprah Winfrey, as she is coming to the Saddledome in January.  I would love to win some.  Then on Thursday night,  it is Student Night, so if you get there before ten, you don't have to pay cover to get in.

Both times I attended Cowboys, I felt like there was positive atmosphere for dancing, and socializing with others.  I don't typically like Country music, which is why I was very surprised by how much fun I had learning to two-step, and line dancing with my friends.  I found the guys to be extremely respectful at Cowboys, and not as grabby as the Back Alley.  Just be warned tough, that if you go on the weekend, Cowboys is extremely busy, and you will definitely bang into various people.  For example, last Saturday, someone accidentally split beer all over my dress (ops!), and I'm pretty sure I stepped on many peoples feet, with my high heeled Cowboy boots (ouch!).

Inside Cowboys, there are two floors, and a decent sized dance floor.  And there are stripper poles ... if you are into that type of thing.  In the girls bathroom, there is a bathroom attendant, and essential items, such as hairspray and body spray.  They also have a bowl of candy.  I am assuming that the guys bathroom also has a bathroom attendant.  It is quite a classy bar, where people dress up much fancier than they would at the Back Alley.  At Cowboys there is also a nice mix of people of all ages.

I first attended Cowboys, as I heard great reviews on it from friends, and fellow classmates.  If you haven't yet attended Cowboys, I highly, highly recommend it, even if you hate Country music.  I can almost guarantee that you won't regret it.

  1. Riley, in my opinion The Back Alley is the last place you'd want to go if your looking for somewhere "classy" to go on a Saturday night. In my experiences the Back Alley was a great place to go if you're into partying hard and going crazy.

If your looking for somewhere with a good atmosphere I found that Ranchmans is also just as popular as Cowboys. It is a mixed crowd of younger and older adults, however the atmosphere is just as fun, and I can't say I've ever had a bad time there. Like you I'm not too fond of country music, however the atmosphere along with good friends made it worthwhile.

I'm sure many of your friends can tell you more about the other night clubs in the city. As for pubs I would suggest that you and your friends check out The Hose and Hound on Wednesdays for their 25 cent wings. I haven't been to Hudson's before but hotwings.ca ranks them as one of the best places in Calgary for wings.

    Hope that helps!

  2. Believe me, I know the Back Alley isn't a very classy place, that's why I was recommending Cowboys.

Thanks for your suggestions Zach. I will definitely have to check out Ranchmans, and/or The House and Hound (I do love wings)!
