For those of you who have read all three 50 Shades of Grey books, the fact that you made it through all three can only show how excited you are for the movie to come out. I myself, am on the third book and I am thrilled for the movie to come out (whenever that may be)! I do, however have some pretty high expectations, as I'm sure most ladies do.
I think our first and foremost concern is who will be playing legendary
Christian Grey? At least I know that's my first concern. I feel the
actor they choose will set up the movie for a complete success or
failure.
After doing a bit of research I found what appear to be the top 3 candidates on one site.
1) Alex Skarsgard
This actor plays in the TV series True Blood. He is a good actor in that show, however I have created my own vision of him, which mainly is a vampire, so personally I do not see him as Christian Grey. I would have to be quite disappointed if he was chosen. He does have that dark side to him, but I don't know if he could also have that soft side that is needed.
2) Matt Bomer
He acts in the movie Magic Mike. I haven't seen that movie or recall many movies he is from, so I haven't created much of a persona for him. Therefore, with his business like, edgy style I think he would be a great candidate. He has that smoky, mysterious, dark look to him, but I also picture him playing a softer side as well. I wouldn't be opposed to him as the Christian Grey.
3) Ian Somerhalder
He acts in the TV series Vampire Diaries.I love this show and based on it, I think he would be perfect! He definitely has that dark, bad side to him that needs to get pushed past, and once it does he would die for the one he loves. He has such passion and think he would be a perfect Christan Grey. However, because I know his character so well on Vampire Diaries, maybe Matt Bomer would suit the role better because I don't know him as well.
Ultimately, who gets chosen can not be chosen individually, but rather the actor (Christian Grey) and actress (Anastasia Steele) have to have such a believable connection. Despite me thinking Ian would be perfect, entirely depends on the actress he has to work with and if the audience has already created a persona of her.
This is my personal opinion. In your mind who is the perfect Christian Grey or even Anastasia Steele?
Matt Bomer ... I loved him in Magic Mike! =)
ReplyDeleteI am definitely very excited for the movie 50 Shades of Grey to be made. Since my first blog post, reviewing the book 50 Shades of Grey, I have changed my opinion on the book series; I am also on the third book! The third book is definitely the best thus far. I enjoyed seeing Christian become less manipulative, and seeing him and Anastasia's relationship progress.
P.S. I wonder what the movie will be rated!
I think this decision is going to be one that is going to haunt the directors for months!I would have to agree with Riley on this one, as I think Matt Bomer would be the best fit. The only issue I have with the casting og both Christian and Anastasia, is that I fell they need to pick some unknown, up and coming actors. I heard littler rumors here and there about Robert Pattinson and otheryoung actors, but I think they need someone who can make a name for themselves. If I were to see Robert Pattinson, all I would think of is his role in Twilight.
ReplyDeleteWith Alex Skarsgard and Ian Harding, as much as people would absolutely love to see them in it, they already have major roles that they are associated with that some people may not be able to let go of in order for them to successfully fill the role. This is where Matt Bomer is perfect, as he hasn't had a huge, overtaking role that could affect his role as Christian.
As for the role of Anastasia, I think it would be ideal to have an actress who has always done more innocent roles, as that is exactly what Anastasia is in the beginning. One rumor I heard was of Alexis Bledel filling the role, and although she had never come to mind, I think she would be perfect for it. She comes off as a normal, innocent young girl which fits the character perfectly!
In the end I don't think fans will be disappointed with the decisions that are made, as I am sure there has been a lot of time and effort put into the considerations for each role.
Megan, I also agree that Alexis Bledel would be a good fit for playing Anastasia! Although, have you considered actress Amanda Seyfried?
ReplyDeleteI feel that Amanda Seyfried would be an even better fit for the movie 50 Shades of Grey. Movies she has played in include Dear John, Mamma Mia, and Letters to Juliet. In all of these movies, she played an innocent, vulnerable, and easily impressionable young girl ... and did a great job. Plus, she is absolutely gorgeous! I would only suggest that for 50 Shades of Grey, her hair should be dyed brown.
Matt Bomer and Amanda Seyfried would be absolutely smashing together! Just look at pictures of them on Google to see what an adorable couple they would be. Hmmmmm, if Amanda Seyfried dies her hair brown, maybe Matt Bomer should dye his hair blonde. What do you think?
Ooh, I had honeslty never even thought of Amanda Seyfried! Good point, my main concern was that her hair is blonde, but as you said, just dye it brown! I agree that her and Matt Bomer would be wonderful together! But I do agree, whoever plays the characters would need to change their hair color if it didn't match. Not sure why exactly this would be such a big deal, but I do not think it would be the same if the characters were represented any differently than the books.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see who they pick! Hopefully they will live up to every fans standards, haha!
I completely agree with you Megan. It appears the candidates for the roles are well known actors and I think it would be best if they found a new face. There are so many well known actors that I think could play the part perfectly, but I think what would make the movie a huge success is to find someone entirely new (or at the very least, not well known).
ReplyDeleteAlexix Bledel would be good fit for the Anastasia role, but once again I think the movie would be even better if they create never before seen images of these characters. It would be like the story coming to life, and we wouldn't have to try to overcome our thoughts of them in other movies (like Robert Pattison).
As for Amanda Seyfried, I have seen her in those movies as well as Red Ridding Hood and one other one (can't remember the name). Those movies she played a little bit of a darker, less innocent character and once again I know her all too well that I would only be thinking of the characters she played in other movies if she got the Anastasia role.
I imagine that the casting will take much time and thinking, so I have no doubt they will pick some perfect actors, whether they be well known or not. At least I can only hope!
