PSY Internet Sensation

By now I am sure that everyone has heard the new smash hit "Gangnam Style". With over 340 million views on YouTube and counting, this song has topped the charts in numerous countries. When PSY released the song “Gangnam Style” his popularity jumped instantly around the globe.  This seems to be the latest craze that everybody is talking about. People are starting to sell T-shirts with the face of PSY on it, flash mobs are being created mimicking his dance moves, and there have been countless YouTube parodies since the release of the original. Check out this video below of a mother and son performing the Gangnam style dance on the Ellen Degeneres show:

What many people don’t know is that PSY was actually quite famous before his smash hit “Gangnam Style”. PSY (real name Park Jae-sang) became a hit in South Korea when he debuted his first album in 2001. He was known for his inappropriate lyrics and funny music videos. In recent years he has appeared on many popular shows such as Ellen Degeneres, and Saturday Night Live.

When I first watched the music video I thought it was the silliest video that I have ever seen. I just found the whole video hysterical but it never really stuck in my head. That was until I watched it for the second time and I actually started enjoying the song and getting into the dance moves. Like many others I just cant get the song out of my head now, it just seems to grow on me. I will have to admit though that this song is getting over played and it’s starting to get old quick. I actually heard this song being played in a country hall, which was very shocking, but it still managed to get the crowd going. I believe this song is just a short lived fad that will slowly die out, but that is my personal opinion. For any stragglers that are out of the loop, you should definitely take a look at the music video below and you will soon find out why so many people are talking about this song.

What was your overall view on this latest craze? Like it or hate it? And do you think this song is just another short lived fad like “Call Me Maybe” or will PSY come out with more smash hits?
