Halloween Costumes

It is officially October, and you know what that means......... Halloween! As someone who works in a bar and who also likes to go out on Halloween, I can say with all confidence that costumes are getting more and more ridiculous. A typical girl costume is best described by yours truly- Lindsay Lohan in her role as “Cady Heron” in the 2009 smash movie Mean Girls.

If someone was to walk into any given bar on Halloween night they would likely see these categories of costumes:
  1. Girls dressed up as slutty animals (ie: lingerie with bunny ears)
  2. Girls dressed up as slutty workers (ie: police, fire-fighter, nurse)
  3. Girls dressed up as slutty superheroes (ie: Wonder Woman)
  4. Girls dressed up as slutty nursery characters (ie: Little Bo Peep)

There is a fifth category that is becoming more and more prevalent, and that is the reality tv/ pop sensation costume. I remember two years ago I was 1 of nearly 20 Lady Gaga's at the bar on Halloween, along with around 30 Beyoncé's. There was a year when many people were Kate Gosselin from Jon & Kate plus 8
  Yep, that was a thing.

More recently, there have been people dressing themselves, their furry friends, as well as their small children up as Jersey Shore cast members.

The reason I felt like this was a topic worth talking about is that there have been some truly heinous things happen recently. One of them is the insane rise of PSY and his song Gangnam style. I'm sure every person in Calgary has heard this- BECAUSE THE RADIO STATIONS ARE PLAYING THE SONG!

Literally every single Asian friend I have (male and female) have said they plan on dressing up as PSY for Halloween. I guarantee there will be at least 30 of them at the bar this year.

Unfortunately, this is not the thing that has upset me the most. While catching up with a girlfriend of mine on the weekend, she informed me that she was planning on dressing up as Alana Thompson for Halloween. For those of you who don't know who Alana Thompson is.. let me refresh your memory.

I'm sure you're thinking what I thought when she first told me. "Is this real life!?" Unfortunately, it's true. My friend is going out (in public) dressed as Honey Boo Boo.

Are there any costumes that you would be completely embarrassed to be seen with?! Are there any fads going on right now that you guys think will be prevalent on Halloween this year? I'm half terrified and half excited!
