Apple's IOS 6: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

The long awaited iOS 6 update is finally here and it has been receiving some mixed reviews from the users. The new update is supposed to revamp the iPhone, iTouch, and iPad with many new features such as improved mapping, new camera features, integrated social networking systems and many other appealing features. But why are so many people bashing the new update?

Lets find out The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of the new iOS 6 update:

The Good: The new iOS 6 update has improved Apple’s new products immensely with the new mapping system that gives you turn-by-turn updates, live traffic updates, a flyover feature which gives the user a 3D look of the landscape, and for users with a iPhone 4S/5 you can now ask Siri to give you directions to the nearest pizza restaurant or gas station.

Facebook has now been integrated into iOS 6 so that users do not have to go into their Facebook app to update their current location, or add a photo because this can now be done through your camera or mapping app.

Apple has also added a new application on its devices with the new update called “Passbook”. Passbook has integrated several apps into one app. So now all you have to do is enter the Passbook app so that you can access your personal boarding pass or movie ticket. The iOS 6 has also made it more user friendly for people with disabilities. The Voiceover screen reader has now been added to the mapping application, which reads out directions for people with vision impairment.

The Bad: While the new iOS 6 has been a big jump since the last update, many of the new features are only accessible in the iPhone 4S and 5. Users with the iPhone 4 or 3GS have seen very little change with the new update on their devices. The only change that users with the older devices have seen is the new Passbook application, easier to use calendar/mail, facebook integration, and a few minor features in iCloud as well as Safari. Users with older devices will be unable to use the new camera features, 3G facetime, all of Siri’s updates, and many of the new map features. Many users with older devices are almost feeling that they need to upgrade their device so that they can have access to these new features. Sounds like a great marketing scheme to me…

The Ugly: Finally we can get down to ugly side of the iOS 6 update, which has made more than a few users unhappy. Many users have noticed that the new update has caused people to have issues when browsing through Safari, as well as picking up Wi-Fi connection in their homes or at school. The new update is also causing people to lose battery life on their devices at a drastic rate. One of the biggest things that people are complaining about is the new mapping system. Since the update Apple has received thousands of complaints about glitches in the new mapping system. Some people are claiming that they were sent in the wrong direction, towns being labeled wrong, and even countries that aren’t on the map. Apple has even issued a statement apologizing to its customers about the glitches in the recent update and they will be addressed in the next update.

So what do you think about the new iOS 6 update? Should Apple have waited until all of the issues were sorted out or did they do the right thing releasing at the time they did?
